For this piece, Sieran, Mico, and Fenri are sitting on the roof of Sieran’s shop, overlooking the city bathed in warm sunlight. Kai can be seen perching on the rooftop of a neighboring building in the distance.
STEP 1: SKETCHING
A rough sketch of the pose and composition is created after deciding on the character design and Definition of Done.
STEP 2: LINING
Lines are applied to the sketch, though not too neat since it will be painted over. Some of the anatomy and perspective from the sketch is repaired during this process.
STEP 3: COLORING
Base colors of each object are applied roughly in accordance to the colors that have been decided during the character design process. Some adjustments to the colors needed to be done in order to avoid them from looking too desaturated.
STEP 4: RENDERING
Some of the colors from the previous step are re-adjusted to create more vibrancy. The background is rendered in a way that avoids the viewer from losing focus of the piece. Various visual effects are then added.

The project is about a world where humans live among the supernatural. Driven by the search for his missing human mother, Sieran the witch, along with his cat familiar Mico and his best friend Fenri, abandon their peaceful city life to investigate the increasing cases of missing humans in the kingdom. Inspired by the growing popularity of Japanese RPGs, the character and environmental design for this project contains a lot of elements from the RPG world.
In this piece, my aim was to portray warmth and a peaceful atmosphere in the city where they live in -- far from the conflict that's about to ensue. Warm tones were favored for the overall drawing, with a cool blue sky in the background as the contrast.
